Role: Consultant Endocrinologist and Physician
Scope of practice: endocrinology, diabetology, internal medicine
Contract: permanent, full time
The Department of General Medicine is looking to appoint a Consultant Physician with a sub-speciality in Endocrinology to join a department of twelve other Consultant Physicians who have a range of subspecialty interests.
- evaluate patient symptoms and medical histories
- diagnose conditions
- develop treatment plans
- help patients to deal with the physical limitations due to diseases stemming from problems with the endocrine system
- participate and contribute to the department’s CME activities, including basic & advanced trainee registrar teaching, audit and medical student teaching.
The endocrinology service is currently delivered by a full time (1.0 FTE) consultant supported by a part time (0.4FTE) consultant. The two positions work together to deliver endocrinology services to address a wide range of conditions, supported by a Tertiary hospital as necessary.
The successful candidate for this position (1.0 FTE) will be required to take part in an acute General Medicine on-call roster with Registrar and House Officer support with an average on call frequency of 1 in 10.
The role is based in a progressive regional secondary referral centre for the province of Taranaki with a range of medical specialties, an Intensivists-managed ICU, an HDU and a well-equipped Radiology Department. In 2013 a new inpatient Clinical Service Block was opened with 6 Wards and a Theatre Block comprising 6 Theatres. Stage 2 of this project has commenced with delivery of additional new facilities in 2023.
- FRACP or specialist qualifications registerable in New Zealand.
