Based in a 330 bed regional general hospital, the Emergency Department sees a diverse case mix with over 55,000 presentations per annum of which 25% is paediatric. There is a broad case-mix with a 35% admission rate reflecting the acuity of presentations in the mixed urban/ rural /Maori population of 200,000 + which it serves. It is staffed by 15 consultant emergency physicians assisted by 21 resident medical officers and 55 nurses.
Duties:
- Demonstrate comprehensive and adaptive resuscitation and acute care skills required for the range of patient presentations of all complexities in the emergency department setting
- Recognise and expedite any specific intervention critical to resuscitation and acute care
- Demonstrate a sound understanding and ability to work across contemporary models of emergency care
- Identify and prepare critically unwell patients requiring retrieval or transfer to a tertiary service
Requirements
- Medical Degree
- FACEM qualification( or equivalent qualification from UK/USA/Canada)
- Subspecialty interest/experience in Geriatric Emergency Medicine (desirable)
- MCNZ vocational registration
