This is a full time permanent position for an emergency physician in a general hospital emergency department in the North Island of New Zealand.

  • there are  17 FACEMS and other emergency medicine trained specialists working in the department, split between the two sites.
  • the roster involves approximately 18 shifts over a six week period
  • provision for ample paid CME and vacation leave to take when you want to take time for fun or learning.
The Emergency Departments:
  • Provide a 24/7 service
  • Have approximately 33,000 and 16,000 patient visits per year respectively
  • Are supported locally by nearly all medical and surgical specialties
  • Have mid-level providers, junior doctors and medical students working or rotating through them
  • accredited by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine to deliver 12 months Registrar training.
  • The training programme has been successful with trainees recently passing their fellowship exams.
  • All Consultants are expected to participate in education and assessment of junior medical staff and students in the department.
Your role:
  • Provide emergent care for the entire district
  • See a full range of patient presentations
  • Work closely with other specialists to achieve the best care possible for your patients, and build more than surface level relationships with colleagues
  • Be enjoying the enthusiasm and refining your training talents when helping develop junior staff and students in the departments.

Requirements:
  • medical degree from WHO accredited school
  • eligible for vocational or provisional vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
  • FACEM or equivalent from USA/Canada/ UK/ Ireland
