An exciting opportunity exists for a Consultant Emergency Physician to join the clinical team in a regional hospital in Western Australia in a role which offers a vast range of varied experience, and requires initiative, resilience and a sense of adventure. In this role you will join a team of emergency physicians in a regional hospital with 24/7 emergency department, refurbished in 2015, and part of a regional integrated heath care system supporting smaller hospitals. In addition to clinical duties, you will also provide administrative leadership in combination with other physicians, as well as participate in programs to ensure safety and quality of emergency services including audit, incident review and clinical practice Improvement projects. You will take responsibility for policy development and review and provide training, supervision and education for trainee Medical Officers.
Suitable candidates must be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA), hold fellowship with the Royal Australian College of Emergency Medicine or equivalent at the date of commencing duties. You must have demonstrated extensive training and experience in Emergency Medicine with an understanding of the complexities of regional and remote hospital-based health services.
You must have well developed communication and interpersonal skills, effective participation and leadership in a multi-disciplinary team environment with a strong interest and commitment to teaching and research. Understanding of the rural medial environment, substantial and current experience in relevant research including study design, implementation, evaluation, presentation and publication. Experience and abilities to foster strong relationships between general practice and specialist medical services is desirable.
Salary: $354,487-451,677 pa (inclusive of base salary, 9.5% superannuation and professional development allowance)

The health campus is a recently revitalised 106-bed general inpatient facility and the second largest regional public hospital in WA. It services more than 50,000 residents of the city as well as outlying towns, and rural and remote communities in the region. It houses an emergency department and provides a range of services including an oncology unit, obstetric services, maintenance renal dialysis unit, paediatric services, psychiatric unit, palliative care unit (which includes accommodation units for cancer patients) and areas for allied health services such as physiotherapy, occupational health, audiology, dietetics, podiatry and social work.
The hospital is located in a town named Kalgoorlie in the largest of Western Australia’s 9 regions, the Goldfields, in the south eastern corner of Western Australia covering 770,488 sq km (including offshore islands). Geographically, the region is bounded by the Pilbara region to the north, the Wheatbelt region to the west, the Great Southern region to the south-west, the Southern Ocean and the state border to the east. The economy is based upon the extraction and processing of various minerals including gold, platinum and nickel and agriculture. There are excellent transport links to Perth by road and Melbourne and Sydney by air.
Kalgoorlie is a hub for the Rural Clinical School of Western Australia, with excellent shopping, school and recreational opportunities, a gateway to explore the outback including the iconic Canning Stock Route, Gunbarrel Highway and John Holland Tracks, as well as Esperance and the southern coastline
