We are seeking on behalf of a major Australian Health Board, A Director of Medical Services who will be responsible for overseeing, guiding and directing Medical Services throughout the region, and providing high level leadership and advice including clinical governance, professional affairs, continuous quality improvement, medical best practice and patient safety. In addition, the Director will implement  standards, medical policy and related clinical guidelines and procedures within the region.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Leadership of medical staff at three hospitals including mentorship and support
  • Ensure salaried medical services availability throughout the region and ensuring functional roster coverage at the salaried sites.
  • Manage optimal medical service and coverage arrangements throughout the region through liaison with private medical practitioners based in the various towns around the region.
  • Maintain sound working relationships with resident and visiting specialists, together with procedural GPs who contribute to the various obstetric, anaesthetic and paediatric rosters.
  • Facilitate and promote an efficient and effective Health Service.
  • Provide professional support, mentorship and development, and medical leadership for all medical officers within the region.
  • Maintain an awareness of trends, issues and developments in relation to medical services
  • Actively implement clinical risk identification and management processes.
  • Provide advice to the Regional Director and Executive Director Medical Services on rural and regional specific and whole of area medical related matters.
  • As a member of the regional Executive Committee actively contribute to multidisciplinary leadership in clinical governance and clinical performance within the region, including clinical indicator monitoring.
  • Develop and maintain intra and inter regional relationships with relevant external bodies, including local government and Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) to ensure optimal clinical service provision

 

Essentials:

  • Eligible for registration by the Medical Board of Australia
  • Demonstrated high-level medical leadership and experience in medical practice and management.
  • Demonstrated contemporary knowledge of professional issues and trends in the medical profession, with a particular focus on rural and remote service delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of policy and programs. 
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, Computer literacy and an ability to utilise information systems and cultivate teamwork.
  • Demonstrated excellent strategic management and project management skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to clinical governance within healthcare, including safety and quality programs.
  • Demonstrated experience with change management and systems development, and sound report writing skills. 
  • A current drivers licence and the ability to travel within the Midwest Region.
  • Current knowledge of legislative obligations for Equal Opportunity, Disability Services and Occupational Safety and Health, and how these impact on employment and service delivery.

DESIRABLE :

• Post Graduate management qualifications.

• Demonstrated understanding of key cultural issues in a rural environment.
