Role Details

A permanent paediatrician to join a dedicated team of Paediatricians, committed to providing excellent service to the children and young people in Wellington region. The position includes general paediatric outpatient clinics, as well contributing to the general paediatric / neonatal on-call roster and wider service development.

The Child Health Service has an enthusiastic team of 10 full- and part-time general, developmental, adolescent and community paediatricians, providing a range of general and sub-specialty paediatric services.

There is a Children’s ward, level 2 Special Care Nursery that admits and manages neonates >32 weeks gestation, Paediatric Outpatients and a Child Developmental Service.

There are close ties with the Paediatric Department in Wellington Hospital, just 20mins away and a Child Mental Health Service on site.

 

The organisation and region

The hospital provides secondary services for a population of approximately 148,000, as well as being the tertiary centre for regional plastic, maxillofacial and burns services, the regional rheumatology and school dental services and the greater Wellington public health and breast screening services.

It is also a teaching hospital with medical students from the University of Otago rotating through the paediatric department. It supervises, and is accredited for paediatric specialty registrar training through the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.

Hutt Valley is part of Wellington, Capital of New Zealand. The region offers great restaurants, a vibrant cultural scene and coffee culture as well as ample opportunity for outdoor pursuits. Sailing, water sports, cycle trails and walking trails among wooded hillsides with fantastic views abound in the “Coolest Little in Capital the World (Lonely Planet)”.

Skill and Qualifications

Applicants must hold or be eligible for vocational registration in paediatrics with the New Zealand Medical Council and hold FRACP or equivalent qualifications.
