This is a significant leadership role within a regional health board in the north island of New Zealand. Suitable for a senior and experienced psychiatrist, the role may be combined with clinical work and involves working in partnership with the General Manager and Professional Nurse Leader, to lead the development of mental health and addiction services within the region encompassing hospital, community, primary care and NGO sectors.
The regional health board has 4 hospitals and additional community centres covering a poulation of 170,000 spread over a large area. The position is based in the regional district general hospital (the largest of the 4) which provides secondary level medical care in all major areas plus 24 hour emergency department but the clinical director will be expected to have a presence in the other locations and hospitals across the district to facilitate the leadership of the service as a whole.
- Eligible for vocational registration or provisional vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
- FRANZCPsych or equivalent
- Experience of senior positions in psychiatry
- interest in clinical governance, clinical leadership and broad-based approaches to care, including working with other government agencies, non government organisations and primary care.
