The Government of Kuwait is making some major changes to employment regulations which will come into force in 2016. A draft resolution is expected to be submitted to the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and Minister of Planning and Development Hind Al- Subaih before the end of this month.
The proposed changes include:
Passports: Employers will no longer be allowed to hold employee passports
Travel Permits: Newly established Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) will grant travel permits to allow employees to leave the country.
New Employment Contracts:
- Mandatory health insurance for all employees
- End of service indemnity
- Flight home at end of contract
- 100 day probation period
- Length of contract open or limited according to agreement between employer and employee
- Hajj leave of 21 days for first Hajj visit permitted after 2 years service.
