Dubai's medical sector continues to expand with the opening of nine new healthcare centres in the Dubai Health Care City (DHCC) in the first half of 2014. This increased the number of licensed professionals by 315 to 4101 and patient numbers are expected to reach 1.2 million by the end of this year.
15 % of patients attending the DHCC for treatment are medical tourists from Asia, Africa and Western Europe as well as other parts of the Middle East. Running at 96% occupancy, DHCC 2 is opening for new projects in 2015.
Action Hotels is building a 240 room 3 star hotel for patients and their relatives in the DHCC and this should help to boost medical tourism.
Meanwhile Altibbi, the Arabic on line medical interactive platform, has secured funding to develop further apps and on line presence. So far they have had over 40 million visitors seeking medical information.
