Qatar Expands Healthcare Sector

Qatar Expands Healthcare Sector

29th Nov 2016

The largest expansion of healthcare facilities in Qatar’s history is underway, as the state run Hamad Medical Corporation opened a new communicable disease facility.

Hamad Medical are planning to open a further three hospitals in the next six months, taking the total number of hospitals owned and run by the corporation in the country to twelve, and increasing the floorspace on offer to patients and medics by over 60%.

Qatar is one of the gulf region’s smaller countries, with a population of just over two million people, however it is the world’s richest by GDP per capita income and is undergoing a healthcare transformation, with over £500m worth of investment going into the development of new facilities.

If you would like to benefit from this investment then Odyssey Recruitment can help. We have a strong network of contacts within the country who can help make a dream move a reality. Qatar based healthcare company Hamad Medical have revealed that they will be looking for an extra 2690 staff across a wide range of medical and non-medical roles over the coming months.

The recruitment drive comes as the long awaited Hamad bin Khalifa Medical City in Doha nears completion. The 250,000sqm development will include seven new hospitals - notably three exclusively for single, male expat workers - and, at a cost of over 2.4bnQR (over £538m), the new facilities will be the most modern and well equipped in the world.

Currently the non-clinical admin roles are exclusively for Qatari nationals, but applications from expat medics - especially those with Western qualifications - are likely to be highly sought after.

Hamad aren’t the only healthcare company in the Gulf state to expand, with Sidra Medical - also based in Doha - looking to grow their workforce by almost 4000 to staff its flagship new hospital.

Qatar is home to one of the world’s fastest growing healthcare markets, and can be an excellent place for a Western trained medic to call home.
