Dubai based healthcare firm Aster DM has become one of the first companies in the world to offer patients mobile applications to monitor diabetes and hypertension from their own home.
The scheme - which costs patients 999dh (£220) a year - will see participants receive blood glucose and pressure monitoring devices, along with a free to download application for their ios or Android mobile device. They can then input readings from the medical devices into the applications, with any worrying trends immediately being reported to the company who can arrange a call from a physician.
A pilot version of the scheme initially involved just 100 people, however after that was successfully completed the company now expect over 2000 individuals to sign up and help manage their health conditions.
