Dubai Implements Robo Docs Telemedicine

21st Oct 2016

All Dubai Healthcare Authority hospitals will benefit from the most advanced telemedical technology, courtesy of the introduction of ‘Robo Docs’ in all DHA hospitals and primary health centres from early next year.

The robotic machines, which can be controlled via smartphones, will allow patients to communicate with medics from almost anywhere in the Emirate. This can prevent patients having to travel a great distance to see a specialist, thus cutting travel costs. It also makes health experts more accessible to a larger demographic - especially for those in rural areas, or individuals who suffer from medical related anxiety.

According to a survey conducted in the USA, the cost of seeing a ‘Robo Doc’ is just $42 per patient as opposed to over $90 for a visit in person. This saving can therefore be reinvested in the healthcare system to ensure that Dubai remains one of the world’s leading healthcare hubs.

The Emirate wide introduction of the robotic doctors comes after a hugely successful trial period during which three of the systems were introduced throughout Dubai. According to Gulf News the machines allowed a patient who was suffering a mini heart attack to quickly be put in contact with a cardiologist, who managed to help him deal with the issue.
