New Medical City for Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

New Medical City for Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

29th Mar 2017

Work on a new medical city in Riyadh looks set to get underway soon, with the Saudi Government giving their approval for the joint venture between the Kingdom and Jordan.

The 1.2bnSR development is set to focus on quelling the high demand for medical services for the physically disabled, mainly through a brand new 600 bed hospital, specialising in working with those in need of physical rehabilitation and support.

As with most new Middle Eastern healthcare developments however, that’s far from all that will be built. The new development will become something of a town in its own right, with a 250 bed public health hospital, and a 250 bed recovery hospital completing the range of medical facilities on offer.

On top of this there will be a 132 bedroom hotel, and over 300 villas for health tourists to reside in. As well as an all new shopping mall, gym, public park, mosque and more than 400 residential apartments.

In a statement released publicising the plans Khaled Al-Jawhar, the Saudi representative who signed the agreement, said: “Large numbers of GCC citizens have been spending millions in pursuit of these kinds of medical services in foreign countries, hence the need for this distinguished project, which will include specialised centers for scientific research on this kind of treatment in foreign countries, the project is expected to generate more than 3,000 jobs and serve more than 170,000 patients each year”.

Completion of the complex should be achieved prior to 2030, in keeping with the Kingdom’s ‘Vision 2030’ healthcare goals.
