Timing and Planning of Applying for a Job

Sarah Peddie

If you are looking at applying for a job working in the healthcare sector in a different country overseas then the most vital thing you need to do is plan ahead and give yourself enough time to plan. People wanting to move abroad for work will usually not give themselves enough time to get everything sorted for moving which results in them not following their dream.

Here at Odyssey Recruitment, we have put together some advice on how you should go about planning out your move and how you should use your time effectively running up to the day you move.

The Planning Fallacy

The planning fallacy is a person’s tendency to underestimate the amount of time it takes to complete a task, as well as the costs and risks associated with the task.

This comes into question when candidates want to apply for a job overseas. When applying for a job overseas, there is a lot of paperwork to sort out that can take months to get prepared. This is why it is so important to give yourself plenty of time to get prepared for your move so your dream job does not fall through.

Why do people drop out of pursuing their dream?

This comes down to underestimating the time and resources needed to project manage the move. Before you think about applying for a job, you should make sure you know how long it will take to get paperwork completed - for example, how long a work visa and medical registration will take to process. These things can take a couple of weeks up to a few months. Make sure you know how long it all takes before you fully commit and waste your time.

What we want to highlight here is planning early and thoroughly with the intention to build pipelines in the preparation stage is very important.
