A new medical school building has opened at the Malta campus of the Queen Mary University, situated on the island of Gozo.
The new school will be where Barts and London students and staff can learn and teach the university’s MBBS medical degree.
The new building is on the island of Gozo, which is Malta’s sister island, and is right next to the Gozo general hospital.
It includes a 140 seat auditorium, two smaller lecture theatres with the capacity of 70, teaching rooms and clinical skills rooms.
Two years ago, the Queen Mary University launched a Bachelor of Medicine programme on the Meditarranean Islands of Malta. The programme is taught in English and it uses the same curriculum as the London university.
As a result of the opening of the new medical school, the Health Minister of Malta has announced plans for a new medical school building for the University of Malta.
Chris Fearne visited and then praised the opening of the medical school in Gozo and said that Malta also deserved a new school as well.
Plans will start next year for the construction of the new medical school, which will be located next to the Mater Dei Hospital in Msida.
