The Canadian city of Toronto is now considering the introduction of mandatory licenses for retailers to sell vaping products.
After last month’s Health Canada warnings over vaping products and e-cigarettes, Toronto is one of the cities in the country trying to tackle the issue and the growing popularity of them.
Last month there were growing concerns that using vaping products caused serious lung disease due to deaths and illness in the USA.
Now, city officials are one step closer towards licensing retailers who sell vaping and e-cigarette products.
On Monday, the general government and licensing committee signed off new recommendations for businesses to buy a license from the city. The council needs to give a final stamp of approval later this month.
There has been an increase in the number of vaping product retailers across Toronto. There are more than 1,400 recognised retailers, 78 of them are speciality stores.
Carleton Grant, Executive Director of the city’s Municipal Licensing and Standards Department has proposed that the city should adopt the same fee structure for retailers selling vape products as what’s already in place for those selling tobacco.
Recently, there has been a lot of cases of severe lung disease tied to vaping and this has been identified by medical professionals.
There are now over 1000 cases in North America. This includes the 18 deaths within the USA.
