Work is underway on a new 500 bed rehabilitation complex in Singapore, as part of the country’s groundbreaking new HealthCity Novena development.
The new rehab centre is being built directly beside Tan Tock Seng Hospital’s main building, to the south of the country, with the opening date scheduled for early 2022.
Healthcare in Singapore is currently going through some of the biggest changes in its history, with new regional health boards being introduced in an aim to further enhance the quality and efficiency of the care on offer.
Nowhere is that more evident than in the area surrounding Tan Tock Seng Hospital, which is being transformed into one of the world’s most modern and advanced healthcare locations.
As well as the rehabilitation centre, plans will also see the creation of another hospital, medical school, clinical sciences research building and a national centre for infectious diseases. Completion for the full complex is scheduled for 2030, although the facilities individually will open in phases as and when they are complete.
The rehabilitation hub will focus on working with patients who have suffered severe spinal injuries, or lost limbs, acting as a “crucial link between the acute hospital and community care” according to Amy Khor, senior minister of state for health.
Singapore is a truly unique country that is at the forefront of modern medical technology. Salaries are high and a competitive working environment can make it a highly rewarding and motivating location in which to live and work.
