The radiologist is a physician who uses medical imaging to diagnose and treat diseases and injuries within the human body. The radiologist interprets and reports medical images created from a variety of medical imaging technologies including Xrays, ultrasound, MRI, CT and nuclear medicine positron emission tomography (PET). The diagnostic radiologist assists specialists and primary care physicians with the diagnosis of patient conditions. The interventional radiologist performs minimally interventional procedures under the guidance of these imaging technologies. The radiologist must complete an approved residency training programme after graduation from medical school and obtain a specialist qualifcation in radiology.
