  • What is the scope of practice for an orthopaedic surgeon?

    The scope of practice required for orthopaedic surgery jobs varies by employer, hospital size and location. 


    Small and  rural or remote hospitals: orthopaedic surgeons require a very broad range of skills and the ability to work independently and reourcefully.


    Larger secondary and tertiary hospitals: the scope of the orthopaedic surgeon is usually restricted to specialist fields of practice such as spinal surgery, knee surgery but may include some component of general orthopaedic surgery. For these jobs, some fellowship or subspecialist training is usually required.
