    The scope of practice required for gastroenterologist jobs varies by employer, hospital size and location. 

    In small hospitals,  gastroenterologists will usually have to combine practice with internal medicine and may have to participate in acute on call rotas for general medicine.


    In larger secondary and tertiary hospitals, the scope of the gastroenterologist may be general or restricted to a subspecialist field like hepatology.
