Anaesthetists, often called anaesthesiologists, are physicians trained in anaesthesia and peri-operative medicine. Anaesthetists may undertake further training in subspecialist fields which include critical care medicine, cardiac anaesthesia, neuro anaesthesia, paediatric anaesthesia, obstetric anaesthesia, regional anaesthesia or pain management.
